I was recently reading another blog about bad movie-going experiences. Most of them had to do with people talking during the film or people going to see The Phantom Menace. I thought I'd throw my own two cents in, as it were.
Spider-man 2: The theater was packed and there was a slew of little kids running up and down the aisle the whole time. Plus, a kid starting bawling as soon as the opening credits began with the intense Danny Elfman music. Go figure.
Clerks II: Some moron brought his 5 year old son to this movie. That singular act was more appalling than anything in the movie.
Toy Soldiers: This was a while ago. It was a packed theater and somehow I ended up on the far inside row near the front of the theater. I drank a lot of pop during that movie. I had to get up three times to go to the bathroom. Each time, about 12 people had to deal with me climbing over them when I left and then again when I returned. From then on I've sought out the aisle seat.
Grindhouse: There weren't a lot of people in the theater, save a large clique of high schoolers that talked loudly throughout the trailers. I was worried it would continue throughout the film, but they noticed my glances of annoyance. One of them blurted out that they'd shut up once the film began. Sure enough, that's exactly what happen. So it wasn't really a bad experience at all (in fact, seeing Grindhouse in the theater was one of the best theater experiences I've had), but I was quite worried it would be. Those kids did shut up though. Bless them, everyone.
The Strangers: My girlfriend and I were the only people in the whole theater. We sat in the dead center of the seats and I spent the entire time glancing over my shoulder, paranoid that someone else was going to come in and scare the crap out of us. That movie was scary enough. Being alone in that dark, eerie theater only heightened that mood.
The Strangers: Part 2. I saw it again with some other friends (they bought my ticket, so it wasn't so bad). There were other people this time around, so that helped. But then a couple came in 10 minutes late, sat a few rows ahead of us, and talked nonstop throughout it. Afterwards, they come up to us to ask about the beginning and inquiring who's funeral they were at. There's no funeral in the movie. We told them so, but they didn't believe us. We told them 3 times that there was no funeral in the movie before they stormed off, still not believing us. Some people should not be allowed in the theater.
Wild Wild West: Self-explanatory.

The Shield Did it Better
Pride and Glory is a movie about police corruption in the NYPD. It stars Colin Farrell and Edward Norton, so you know it's good. It's a decent murder mystery/corruption drama thriller thing. And I think Jon Voight is in it.
The thing is, and this is true for all "dirty cop" movies out there now: The Shield already did it. And they did it so much better. Better than these movies can ever hope to possibly being. With, of course, maybe the exception of The Departed.
In any case, after the exploits of Vic Mackey and crew, everything else seems tame.
Oh yeah, this is supposed to be about Pride and Glory. It's not great, but it's not too bad.
6/10 Toddsperience.
Oh yeah, and what's with the whole family of cops in New York sub-genre going on lately? First We Own the Night and now Pride and Glory. What's up with that?

Body of Meh
Last week I watched Body of Lies starring Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. It's also directed by the great Ridley Scott.
So the directing is top notch and the acting is stellar. Top notch. As expected.
The story, however? Meh. It's not that it's a generic story about a CIA spy fighting terrorism in the Middle East that disappointed me. What I didn't like was how it played out like 4 or so consecutive stories that barely related to each other. They were short, truncated, and crammed together. I would have preferred they picked one of the given story lines and made it the main plot for the film. I think a film centered around a spy trading himself to terrorists for his kidnapped girlfriend would make a good movie, as well would a story about creating a fake terrorist organization to come into contact and ensnare a real terrorist cell. Instead, these two plots come one after another and still only make up 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie!
IMDB tells me it was adapted from a novel. That definitely shows in the way the movie plays out. It seems like there was way too much story in the book to fit into just 2 hours. But they tried it anyway.
In the end, it's certainly not a bad movie. If you're a Ridley fan or a Leo fan, then by all means, see it.
13/20 Toddsperience.
